In general, a glass should be filled to one third of its capacity. This brings several benefits.
- One third usually represents the widest part of the glass. This is the area where there is greatest contact between the wine and the air, which helps to bring out a wine's aromas.
- The glass is easier to hold, it will not have a tendency to tip.
- Finally, if you decide to swirl the wine in your glass, there is less risk of spilling it... A properly filled glass is therefore not a full glass.
