Gérard Basset of UK was awarded the title of World’s Best Sommelier on April 15th 2010 in Santiago de Chile, succeeding Andreas Larsson of Switzerland who won the award in 2007. Gérard Basset is a French sommelier who has been living in UK for more than 30 years. David Biraud of France took third place in this 13th competition in which 51 candidates of 48 countries competed. All the sommeliers were delighted to use Chef & Sommelier glasses and more particularly the Open Up range.
Open Up is a range of glasses with a contemporary and revolutionary design, which provides wine-drinkers with an incomparable tasting experience. It is suitable for tasting all types of young wines. The different models in the Open Up range cater for the majority of wine varieties and types produced worldwide.

The Pro-tasting Glass
Look: a contemporary shape with convex-concave design. The short stem of this glass stands out beautifully.
Olfactory properties: an excellent oxygenation area designed for aromas to develop, with a narrowed shaft to regulate the alcohol released by wine. This will prevent overpowering alcohol smell without altering any olfactory properties.
Gustative properties: this revolutionary shape allows young or powerful wines to open up quickly and express themselves in a harmonious way. Wine is guided directly to the taste buds in the middle of the tongue.
Unlike the majority of other glasses, the tasting experience is not hindered by an overwhelming perception of acidic or bitter tastes in the mouth.
